As of the 2000 census, the total base population was 12,377 (9,294 in Hardin County and 3,083 in Meade County). It is included in the Elizabethtown, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fort Knox is located at 3753'34" North, 8558'29" West (37.892809, -85.974709)GR1, along the Ohio River.
